fax monitor in XP

I was successfully using the fax monitor notification for
incoming and sending faxes. After an error receiving a
fax, I can no longer get the monitor to work. I have done
everything including re-installing fax. I am using it
with a Dell AIO Printer A940. Now I cannot see if a fax
has come in unless I open the entire fax console. Any way
to fix this?
Thank You.

as possible. It is not documented or reproducible at this time.

The monitor appeared that a fax was incoming. Then an
error occured on the incoming fax. I closed the monitor
from my screen. Since that time I have been unable to use
the monitor. The fax works fine.

Not at all. History: This XP system was born July 2,
2003. I maintain it the best I can. I have installed
every Patch available! I only started using Fax on 12-24-
03. Yesterday when the problem started, I saw the fax
monitor on my screen: a fax was incoming. Then an error
message appeared. The fax was not received. I closed the
monitor box. The next time a fax was incoming---no
monitor. In the properties menu-under tracking-- the 'Fax
can track and notify you of fax events' there is a red
exclamation point next to the box that has a checkmark in
it. This mystery may never be solved!

Oh it probably will be eventually. There was a reproducible, documented
cause for this same problem which sp1 fixed. This is likely another. It
won't be fixed until it can be reproduced, though, so we'll be looking for
other similar reports. If there are any other configuration changes you made
to your system between the time it first worked and the time it stopped, it
would provide a clue.

Whoever you are, thank you. This is the first time I
have ever used this kind of help. On Jan. 2 I installed
an upgrade (?) to Windows Media Format 9 Series Runtime
Setup. I was unhappy with it. Whatever that was I
immediately did a successful system restore operation.
Other than that I update my McAfee Security system
regularly including firewall. I also use and update
SpyBot. Nothing else I can think of.

One more thing. I have in 'event viewer' 16 entries
yesterday morning with source "Windows File Protection"
event #64002. The first one says "File replacement was
attempted on the protected system file c:\windows\system32
\fxscfgwz.dll. This file was restored to the original
version to maintain system stability. The file version of
the system file is 5.2.1776.0." The next is fsxcom.dll-
same version-then fxscomex.dll 5.2.1776.1023-then
fxsclntr.dll (with the .0)-then fxsclnt.exe with the 1023-
then fxscover.exe with the 1023- then the fxsdrv.dll
with version 0.3.1776.1023-then fxsext32.dll with 1023-
then fxsmon.dll with the.0- then fxsperf.dll with 1023-

fxsst.dll with 1023- then fxsui.dll with 1023-then

Stay tuned. But you're not done yet.
New problems will require more information.
For starters:
One of your posts seems to indicate that somebody was trying to overwrite
the files - did you try to install fax again or copy over fax files from
some other location? Is there only 1 modem on this machine? Could you
provide a dump of the registry keys under
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Fax\UserInfo? Also can you provide a
dump of the registry keys under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Fax\Devices?
Just send them to me, don't post them.

Whoever you are, thank you. This is the first time I
have ever used this kind of help. On Jan. 2 I installed
an upgrade (?) to Windows Media Format 9 Series Runtime
Setup. I was unhappy with it. Whatever that was I
immediately did a successful system restore operation.
Other than that I update my McAfee Security system
regularly including firewall. I also use and update
SpyBot. Nothing else I can think of.

Oh it probably will be eventually. There was a
reproducible, documented
cause for this same problem which sp1 fixed. This is
likely another. It
won't be fixed until it can be reproduced, though, so
we'll be looking for
other similar reports. If there are any other
configuration changes you made
to your system between the time it first worked and the
time it stopped, it
would provide a clue.

Not at all. History: This XP system was born July 2,
2003. I maintain it the best I can. I have installed
every Patch available! I only started using Fax on 12-
24-
03. Yesterday when the problem started, I saw the fax
monitor on my screen: a fax was incoming. Then an
error
message appeared. The fax was not received. I closed
the
monitor box. The next time a fax was incoming---no
monitor. In the properties menu-under tracking--
the 'Fax
can track and notify you of fax events' there is a red
exclamation point next to the box that has a
checkmark
in
it. This mystery may never be solved!
-----Original Message-----
Interesting. Is that the only hotfix since SP1?

I installed MS recommended update KB810243 3 days
ago.

-----Original Message-----
Unlikely that's all there is to it. Definitely no
repros
on that. Include
all configuration changes made to your system
since
you
installed fax.

The monitor appeared that a fax was incoming.
Then
an
error occured on the incoming fax. I closed the
monitor
from my screen. Since that time I have been
unable
to
use
the monitor. The fax works fine.

Then you need to list the steps that reproduced
this
problem as accurately
as possible. It is not documented or
reproducible
at
this time.

I have had SP1 since I have had this
computer.

-----Original Message-----
Have you applied SP1?

I was successfully using the fax monitor
notification
for
incoming and sending faxes. After an error
receiving a
fax, I can no longer get the monitor to
work.
I
have
done
everything including re-installing fax. I
am
using
it
with a Dell AIO Printer A940. Now I
cannot
see
if a
fax
has come in unless I open the entire fax
console.
Any
way
to fix this?
Thank You.

looking to see if anyone knows how to fix it. mine
worked fine too and then I had a computer crash got a
replacement and now it doesn't work. might be a
problem that a recent update caused. service pack 1 it
worked fine for me now I have service pack 1a and it
