'Favorite Links' in Explorer

Is there a way to turn off the 'Favorite Links' which takes up a chunk of
space in the top left corner of Explorer? I can't find a way in options or
views.

Jeff,

You can hide the "Favorite links" by dragging the folder pane to the top (which is located at the bottom by default). Hover the mouse pointer to the top border of the folder pane until you see a double-headed arrow, and then drag it to the top.

I haven't got a Folder Pane, and I can't find an option to turn it on. I
vaguely remember seeing it once and I must have found a way to turn it off
(it takes a massive amount of room, I wonder why MS thinks that enormous
icons are an advantage) but I can't remember what I did!

How you could have been using Vista so long without the Folders pane beats
me. The button for it should be at the bottom of your Favourites pane. I
usually drag it under Favourites, so I can see about 5 of them, which are
set as some useful locations that I use (obviously).

Right, thanks for that clarification :)

I have the Folders TreeView, and now I understand what Ramesh meant and I
have dragged it up to cover the links thing, I wouldn't call it a pane,
it's a TreeView control (or something like one).

The thing I am missing, because I turned it off, went right across the
bottom of Explorer, it was about an inch high and had a folder icon on it
- I don't know what it's called or how to get it to show again, not that I
found it useful.

Thanks Frank :)

Still can't think what it's useful for though!

Well, if you're using Details View already it certainly doesn't add much.

I find it useful. When you are in a folder and have nothing selected you
can right click the icon in the Details pane for the properties of the
containing (or parent) folder. And shift-right clicking allows me to
quickly get a Command Prompt at that address if I need it to do something
with any of the contained files.

The top left icon of explorer windows worked much the same way in XP, and
the top left corner of explorer windows can still be double clicked to close
them.

Jeff,

It was the same folder treeview that was referred to as "folder pane" in XP and earlier OS. Isn't it ? Whatever control it may be, it's still a pane ;-)
