Favorite Folder - Again ;)

Okay, few things first:
-I don't want to use Folder List view to get around this.
-I know that Favorite Folders can't go away completely.
-I've tried resetting the navigation pane through the command line.
-I've gone through endless google and newsgroups posts & tried
everything I've seen in the past three hours, but nothing's worked.

Now, I want the Favorite Folder to be completely empty, but when I
remove the two folders there (Inbox and Sent Mail) and restart
Outlook, these two folders reappear in the favorite folder pane. I
think the only reference to them is in C:\documents and
settings\$profilename\application data\microsoft\outlook\outlook.xml -
the portion below keeps on reappearing:

<recentlyused>
<wdLnk>
<ltype>normal</ltype>
<reckey>82800000</reckey>
<eid>00000000481C82EF96D73845B2C75371AF65C67782800000</eid>
<name>Inbox</name>
<storeid>10</storeid>
</wdLnk>
<wdLnk>
<ltype>normal</ltype>
<reckey>C2800000</reckey>
<eid>00000000481C82EF96D73845B2C75371AF65C677C2800000</eid>
<name>Sent Items</name>
<storeid>10</storeid>
</wdLnk>
</recentlyused>

To make myself clear: I delete this portion from the file while
outlook is not running, save the .xml file, reload outlook, and find
out that the inbox and sent items folders have reappeared. Several
people have posted similar complaints in the last year - has anybody
figured it out?

For the record: Microsoft, PLEASE let us get rid of this pane! It's
absolutely useless for some people. Don't get rid of it altogether;
make it optional. Thanks!

I've got lots of users here with an empty Favorite Folders list connected to
an Exchange 2000 server.
