Faulty Event Log

I'm running Win XP Home.
For a few last weeks, I was getting an error message on startup <Windows
cannot load the user's profile that has logged you on with the default
profile for the system. Detail: Not enough storage is available to process
this command>.
Yesterday, using a Win XP troubleshooter and MSCONFIG utility, I identified
a Service <Event Log> that caused the error message. Although the Event Log
was stopped, unchecking this service eliminated the error message on
startup.
Now, may someone please tell me what it is? I mean, why checked Event Log in
Services tab (MSCONFIG) causes error message on startup even while it's
stopped? How can I fix this Event Log? Do I need it? I'd prefer to run a
Normal startup, but with the Event Log unchecked it runs in Selective only.
Any other suggestions on this matter are appreciated.

Your user account has become corrupt. Turn the service back on, create a new
user, copy over any files you need to, delete your old user.

Well, I tried it before, but run into another problem: the Windows would
start, but the Desktop would not load and all I got was a blank blue screen.
Logging off the new account and logging on back to the old account would
start the system, but that nasty error message would pop up again...

I did a system restore and lost a few files, but it did not solve the
problem. What do you mean <a repair install>? May you elaborate, please?

Boot from the XP cd, and when prompted hit enter to begin setup. Press F8 to
accept the license agreement. It will then search and find your existing XP
install. Select it, and choose R for repair. Back up any important data
files in case something goes wrong.

I have OEM Win XP, so there is a restore CD only. I'd prefer to avoid
re-installation of everything. May you tell me, what this Event Log is for?
Can I live without it?

Ahhhh....... another situation where oem hurts the end user. One reason why
I always tell customers to stay away from oem computer makers that provide
no real xp disk. The event log is a log that records all the errors,
warnings, and general goings on with the computer. If you turn it off, it
doesn't fix anything, it just doesn't tell you anything is wrong, a false
sense of security. You can live without it, but that won't fix your problems
with your user accounts. If you know someone with an oem version of xp you
could try using that. Otherwise its leave it alone or use the recovery
disk.(unless someone else has an idea).

Thanks for your explanation and suggestions. I appreciate it. Unfortunately,
no one (and believe me, I contacted quite a few professionals) has any other
idea than reinstall. Although I'm still waiting for a response from a
Microsoft Senior Window Specialist (my case was elevated three times), I'm
afraid, next week, I'll jump head first. You know, that guy survived Niagara
Falls, so I may too...
Thanks again for assistance.
