Fatal Error when installing Net Zero

The Problem: "A fatal error has been detected and the application must be
terminated." I have been having trouble with Net Zero dial up (not
connecting) so I uninstalled and reinstalled the program several times which
didn't resolve the problem. Then I started getting the above message so I
got a new disk thinking the old one might be corrupted. Same problem when I
attempted reinstall. The error messages also includes "Can't load properties
from file ...prop.enc." The last line is: "Caused by Win32Exception: Call to
Create File()failed with (2) The system cannot find the file specified." I
also did a clean boot and attempted another install with the same results.
My operating system is Windows XP Home Edition.

Broadband has finally become available in my rural area and is scheduled to
be installed in about a month, however I am without internet in the meantime.
Any suggestion would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks very much for any
response.

I did contact Net Zero and told them everything I've tried. They responded
with a form letter that told me how to install the program. I wrote them
again, a little testily, asking them to read the original correspondence.
Then they responded with instructions on how to do a clean start (which I
told them I had already done) and a suggestion to obtain new software in case
mine was corrupt (already did that too). I have given up on NetZero techies.
They just don't read. I have decided to get another dial-up ISP until I get
broadband, but am really very curious about what is going on here. I'm
nowhere near as computer savvy as all of you seem to be but I'm trying to
learn. Based on info. I read in the forum about registry cleaners, I
downloaded RegistryFix 6 and ran it. There were 5 listings that included
reference to Net Zero. I backed up the registry and deleted these entries
and tried again to install NetZero with the same result. I know the danger
in messing with the registry, given my level of knowledge, but I'm trying
everything that seems to apply. Again, any suggestions would be much
appreciated.

Is NetZero listed in add/remove programs?

That is not an ordinary dialup service. It incorporates an acceleration feature
(intelligent download, only downloading web pages that have changed and the like).

I found a log here, that might match the kind of software installed by
the Net Zero people.

http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/win95/1074494122

"decrypted prop.enc successfully creating a back up"

So something important is stored in there. Perhaps username/password ?
The log also doesn't mention where that file is stored. But the log itself,
might be stored in Program Files/Blah, where Blah is whatever name they
gave your instance of software product. What you might want to see, is
a similar log file, from your attempts to run it.

You'll also notice, in that log file, that accel73.untd.com is mentioned.
If you go to this page, you'll notice that United, Net Zero, and Juno are
all part of the same business. That is why I suspect this is the same kind
of software.

I'd start by searching the disk, and see if prop.enc is on the C: drive
somewhere. And if you cannot find that, find the install directory, and
see if there is a log file. I don't see a reason to be hitting the
registry just yet. Unless you've already found a pointer to prop.enc
in there.
