Fast User Switching and Offline Files

Hi

I am using Windows XP Professional SP2. The problem is that my fast user
switching is not working. When I go to "change the way users log on or off"
in the user accounts section and check the box next to "enable fast user
switching" it tells me that I need to enable "offline files" and then takes
me to the settings of "offline files". Even after enabling "offline files" it
does the same and refuses to enable this option.

Any ideas? And one more question:- "Why are offline files needed for fast
user switching?"

Background information:- The fast user switching service is enabled and
started.

I do not have a full answer to your issue. In order to use Fast User
Switching the following conditions must be met: 1. The Welcome Screen must be
enabled. 2. The coomputer must not be joined to a domain and 3. Offline files
must be disabled. While thiss next is not an absolute requirement it IS
recommended the computer have more than 64MB of free memory. By default, Fast
User Switching is disabled on systems with less than 64MB or free memory.
This is probably not an issue though as 128MB is required to effectively run
WinXP.

1. Log on as an administrator and open User Accounts in Control Panel
2. Click the Change The Way Users Log On Or Off link to open the Select
logon and
logoff options screen.
3. Select Use the Welcome Screen
Select Use Fast User Switching and click Apply Options.

If a warning about offline files appears, open the folder Options dialog box
by clicking OK. You disable offline files before you can enable Fast User
Switcing.

Hope this helps, have a nice day.

You are most welcome and thanks for letting me know it worked out for you. It
is nice to get feedback that something I offered actually was helpfull. ;-)
