Hi people,

I just got a new PC:
AMD64 3500+,
ASUS A8N-SLI motherboard

and when i put the computer into stand by mode the CPU and Case fans
still remain on!
How can i stop this as the point of putting the PC into stand by is to
stop the noise!

thanks

"Standby" is like idling your car in "Park"- your not doing anything, but
the engine is still running- and the fan keeps turning. If you have
temperature regulated fans, they will turn slower, and therefore produce
less noise, but they shouldn't stop. Your computer would overheat in Standby
mode if cooling didn't keep running.

When I put my PC on standby, everything turns off. Fans and all. Don't
know if it is a setting on the motherboard or something like that. I
have an Asus MB also.

Could it be a difference between "Standby" and "Hibernation"? Hibernation=
Your computer saves all stored information and then shuts down. I do not
have Hibernation enabled. In Standby, my fans continue to turn, (the power
LED flashes and there is no hard drive activity). I can access Standby mode
from the Start menu, or the "Sleep" button on the keyboard. If I put the
computer into Sleep with a screen other then the desktop open, when I wake
it, it comes back up to the item I had left open. In hibernation mode, I
believe it would open to the desktop as if you had restarted the computer.

Control Panel>Power Options>Hibernate. You also have some other settings
available under the "Advanced" Tab.
