Fan direction

Can y'all make suggestions on the direction of my fans? I have a picture
at http://overlunch.com/fans.jpg .

Right now the TR2-M4 heatsink/fan is oriented "vertically", and the air
enters in from the top and bottom. The top is an inch away from the bottom
fan of my PSU.

There is a 80mm fan to the bottom left (back of case) of the TR2-M4, and
it's currently bringing the air inwards. I have room for a fan on the
bottom right (front of case), but there isn't anything there.

After I clean up my cable mess, would it be better to point the TR2-M4
horizontally instead of vertically?

Should my case fan push hot air out or bring cooler air in?

If I added a front fan, would I have that bring cooler air in and have the
rear push hot air out?

Thanks in advance for all my newbie questions!

Good lord! Cables!! Arrggghhh...

You want an equal amount of air entering the front of the case as exits
the rear otherwise air and dust will get sucked through the floppy and
cd/dvd drives. So adding a fan to the front of the case is a good idea
usually.

I would mount the CPU fan so it's outflow is headed to the back of the
case and make sure the rear case fans are blowing air out of the case.

Top and bottom is relative to the picture. I probably should have written
that air enters through both sides of the fan and air is pushed out the
bottom.

"Vertically" is also relative to the picture.

The theory for cooling a computer case is to suck air in the bottom and
front of the case, and to blow air out the back and top of the case. That
will provide maximum cooling to the internal components.

I'm going to put my Vantech stealth in the front since it's probably
quieter than the Titan fan I picked up recently. So, I'll make sure that
the front sucks and the back blows.

I guess with the Tr2, I'll just have to try both directions and use the
thermometer to decide which orientation is best. Since it's so tall and is
so close to the PSU, I'm considering returning it for a shorter fan. It
seems like it might block the flow of air into the PSU. I'm at 48C right
now, which seems high to me.

I wouldnt block the PSU though.

I recently modded my PSU so that I had a fan just above the heatsink,
taking air from the case into the PSU. My cpu temp dropped by 5C, and
I only had a Zalman ZM-OP1 fan on the PSU (which is a 15mm thick,
80mm fan that is running at 5V)

The main PSU exhaust fan is thermally controlled and even though I
have added a fan on, the exhaust fan has not had to increase its speed
at all.
