Failure to import data form ODBC

I have been able to access my ODBC data untill today. The only thing that
has changed is I installed Norton 2006 and Microsoft Anti Span Bata.

Now when I select get external data and choose ODBC database the window
closes and nothing else happens.

I have used excell and am able to get ODBC database. Everything works well
in Excell.

i have the same problem. am i glad to see your post! i've been looking all
over for something that might give me some idea what's going on.

this is my situation. in Access (2003), go File > Get External Data > Link
Tables ...

for "Files of type:" select ODBC Databases

and then, nothing happens. the "ODBC Data Source Administrator" window does
not appear as usual. no error message, nothing.

the previously linked tables (linked before this problem started) are still
there and are still able to link to the SQL Server (2000) tables.

i updated my Norton to 2006 recently but i cannot be certain that the
problem started after or because of that.

i've tried reinstalling, uninstalling, installing Office, same problem.

this problem occurs on both my Windows 2000 and Windows XP machines.

somebody please help!

Thanks for your post. I suspect Norton 2006 is the cause of the problem.
Surely we will see others soon with the same issues and mabe a soluation. I
am reporting the problem to Norton maybe there is a fix.

contacted Symantec using their live chat at
http://live-symantec.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/live_symantec.cfg/php/enduser/live.php and here's summary of our chat:

use the SymNRT tool in order to remove any of the 2004,2005 and 2006
Symantec products. this fixed it, ODBC window from Access is back and
working fine after removing Norton by following these instructions.

http://service1.symantec.com/support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039

then to install back Norton (which i haven't done yet. i'll unplug from the
internet and get some work done first), use a clean boot to restart Windows
with no applications running and as few extra drivers loading as possible.

clean boot steps for XP:

http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001053014402339

clean boot steps for 2000:

http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2000110615402439

thanks Darrel for the Norton pointer. wouldn't have been able to
troubleshoot or guess that!

I did not want to spend the time removing Norton. I found someone who said
that if you turn off the office plug in's in norton that temp. fix the
problem. It did work. Norton still needs to address the issue.

Thanks for the info When I get the time I will follow your fix.
