failover of domain controller in domain

Hi everyone,

I cannot change the PDC Emulator in secondary DC after primary DC down. It show the message 'ERROR' under the operation master field. It means the secondary DC cannot pick up the role of operation DC.

For my W2K Domain 'gptest' setting - primary and secondary DC
- AD
- native mode
- DNS and WINS services
- File Replication services

Any other must be consider?

Any steps or guides to be followed and reference?

You can't transfer PDC emulation role to another DC if original role owner
is offline. You must bring it online and transfer role. If in any case your
PDC emulator won't come online again, then you have to seize the role on
another DC.

I have already transfered all the roles from first DC to
secondary DC while online.

- Schema master
- Domain naming master
- RID master
- PDC emulator
- Infastructure master
- GC

When I offline the first DC, I still cannot access my
Domain via other DC from our Win9x clients.

could it be a WINS issue or a "master browser" issue?

I haven't setup any WINS server. But I don't know how to
defind the master browser.
