"fAIL" appears in dialog box on start up.

On my kid's computer a dialog box appears on boot with one word: "fAIL" in
that lower+upper capitalization.

I've scanned the computer with AVG, Microsoft's defender tool and web access
Norton antivirus utilities.

What else can I try?

Thanks!

Craig,

I'd start by using Process Explorer from www.sysinternals.com to find the
source application of the error message. Post that information back and
somebody will be able to assist in diagnosing the problem and providing a
solution.

No, I haven't figured it out.

using sysinternals sounds simple, but the user to which it occurs is a
reduced permissions user and I don't know how to install sysinternals for
that user.

Craig,

What problems are you getting when trying to run Process Explorer on a
limited user account? As far as I was aware PE runs perfectly happily on
limited user accounts...
