fade and crash on send (with Vista and office 2007)

often, not always, when I hit send the email I have just composed fades from
black text to medium grey and then Outlook stalls and crashes.

Any clues as to what is causing this and how to avoid it?

Do you have a virus scanner installed which integrates itself with Outlook?
Uninstall this integration part of your virus scanner and try again; you'd
still be sufficiently protected by your on-access scanner part of the virus
