Factory Restore Question

My daughter just bought a computer from her husband's uncle. I think when he
took his own files out, he may have deleted some necessary files. Plus it was
full of malware and trojans. I thought it might be a good idea to restore it
to factory condition. She does have the disk. Now, there's been ram
upgrades. Will the restore effect these?
