Facing a memory problem in the server after 2 to 3 days

I am facing a weird problem here. My local server here (Windows 2000 server)
gives me a memory problem after 2 or 3 days.

This server is used as my Proxy server, Intranet Web server, MDaemon mail
server, It has the applications like Winproxy4.0, MDaemon, SQL server 2000,
then some small applications.

All the service packs has been installed, all the system and software
updates is downloaded and installed. 2 years we where using the SQL server
2000 without installing the Service packs. When this problem came, I
installed all the service packs, but then also the problem seems to persist.
This problem is much similar to the sasser worm problem, but I have checked
thoroughly, there is no sasser worm in this system.

Any suggestions are most welcome.

What exactly are the symptoms? Error messages? What do you see in your app
and system event logs that looks relevant?

Sasser or a variant would be giving you an LSASS message about shutdown, and
would then shut down the machine.
Is your network also protected by a good perimeter firewall?

Lanwench, there is no error message or warning message, when I see the task
manager immediately after a restart the no of process that would be running
is 49 or 50 and the memory consumtion would be 230 or 250 MB, but after 2 or
3 days the no. of processes increases to 54 or 55 and the memory consumtion
would be around 470 MB. Thus this would cause some problem like my winproxy
would be closed automatically. Then when I try to restart the system it says
you don't have enough permissions to shutdown the system, I can't even see
the icons in the start menu, I can't open My Computer or any other folder, it
says access is denied. I have to go enter Ctrl+Alt+Del and then give shutdown.

I don't see any sasser worm in this system. I used many tools to search
whether the worm exists or not but all of them told the system is clean from
sasser worm.

Hi Vijay ... the massive number of symptoms you have on the system all point
to a virus of some kind ... not nececerily sasser ... i would goto
www.symantec.com and search a few of your symptoms through thier site ... it
will then suggest which virus it maybe ... then just download the search and
remove tool.
