If you're having problems with the F Lock key, then there is an
alternative way to
get into safe mode
There is more than one way to do this.
Using the System Configuration Utility. If you can start the computer
normally into
Windows, then this is the easiest way to restart the computer in Safe
mode.
To configure the System Configuration Utility to start the computer in
Safe mode:
1. Close all open programs.
2. Click Start, and then click Run. The Run dialog box appears.
3. Type msconfig and then click OK.
4. The System Configuration Utility appears. Check the "/SAFEBOOT" option,
and then
click OK.
5. You then see the prompt to restart the computer. Click Restart.
The computer restarts in Safe mode. (This can take several minutes.)
When you finish troubleshooting (in Safe mode) repeat these steps, but in
step 4,
uncheck "/SAFEBOOT," and then close all programs and restart the computer
as you
normally would.

I have a Microsoft Natural Multimedia Keyboard 1.0A. Following a boot up
the F Lock
is off which means none of the keys are the normal Function keys. They are
different
functions that seemed important to the designers. However, when trying to
start up
in Safe mode it is nearly impossible to get the F Lock turned on in time
for the F8
key to work. Exasperating.
Is there a way to reverse the function of the F Lock key?
Yep, I couldn't find a Keyboard Newsgroup...
I was looking for a change that would simply reverse the function of the F
Lock.
Not being a multi-media person, I should have looked further for a Natural
keyboard without the multi-media stuff on it before settling for the one
that was available in the retail outlet when I needed to replace my old one.
11 years ago, at the age of 65 when I bought my first computer, it took a
while to pick up on a keyboard. That was because I really wanted to. Today,
I use as many keyboard shortcuts as possible. Now, I really don't want to
learn the multi-media stuff, and therefore I won't.
I'll try your suggestions.
Thanks to you all.
