Yep! We picked a winner with Bush, didn't we?

Thank god he isn't a dictator and must eventually leave. I feel sorry for
people in many other countries. They don't have this opportunity to bounce a
bad president/leader.

I won't mind if Windows tells me my version of Windows is pirated. I'll call
them and try to resolve it. Now, if that doesn't work, then I'll be upset
but I have not heard of people with legitimate licenses not being able to
resolve the problem with a phone call.

And the WMP issue goes back at least to WMP 10. I don't remember if WMP 9
did it or not.

I do however question the adoption rate for businesses. I work for an
organisation that employs about 6k people. I remember it wasn't till this
year that we changed over to XP from NT4 and it was a huge undertaking by
our
IT department. I cannot see us touching Vista in the next four-five years.
Which begs the question; how many businesses like ours are out there that
won't even look at Vista for years to come?

Well of course. If you just went to XP this year - from NT 4! - then of
course you will be in no hurry to change again.

XP didn't surpass 2000 until around late 2003/early 2004. I expect the
same pattern for Vista. Home users will get it first. Businesses will
come later.

In no case will Linux rise from the ashes. It's dead, Jim.

As a person who uses both Windows and Linux heavily, I feel compelled to put
my two cents in on this one. (I also use Mac, but not nearly as much as the
other two.) There are pros and cons to any OS, but from a user standpoint
Windows is much better for ppl who do not have much technical knowledge.
Windows also offers much better support than Linux. Linux is getting
better, and might have a better chance in years to come, but at the moment
Windows has it beat hands down. RPM and Apt are okay, but do not come close
to the ease of installing/uninstalling in Windows. There is also alot
better driver support in Windows. On the other hand, when it comes to
safely surfing the net, Linux has Windows beat. (Of course that's because
most viruses, spyware, etc. are written for the most popular OS) When it
comes to programming, again Linux has Windows beat, as everything is open
for viewing/modification. I could go on and on with the pros and cons, but
what it boils down to is Windows is the better OS for the majority of the
ppl using computers. I would like to add, to anyone thinking about trying
Linux, it's really not hard. Sure, you do have to learn the basics, but
that is true of any OS.

btw, Alias, not all of us voted for the retarded cowboy (Bush) ;^)

How come that up until last year you were still using Windows 95 and
saying how bad Windows XP was? (-;

What's taking so long for the Americans to give him the boot? It's been
obvious since he took office that he's an idiot who doesn't know what
he's doing. Oh, I forgot, when you have the Supreme Court and the
Congress in your pocket, getting the boot is not a-gonna happen!

The Bush Dynasty = the end of the American Empire.

Gonna vote for Jeb?

Unlike the Socialist governments of Europe, it takes more than
"unpopularity" to remove a President. You can't just have a "no
confidence" vote and force him to resign.

You see, we have actual laws here. Until the President breaks a law, there
are no grounds for removal. Since he has broken no laws, he will serve out
his term.

Fortunately, for all of us.

It's funny how the only people who say that are the people who look at

Actual statistics:

http://marketshare.hitslink.com/report.aspx?qprid=2

http://www.thecounter.com/stats/2006/November/os.php

Where are your numbers?

Mike

Where is you reading comprehension and common sense? How can I have any
numbers if "Reliable statistics on Linux are impossible"? The
Counter.com is laughable at best. Anyone can put up a little chart of
who visited their lame web site.

The times, they are a changing, though. In Europe the unholy alliance
between Packard Smell, HP, et al and Microsoft is being broken up
because people are demanding -- and getting -- computers without an OS
and there are plenty of very successful local computer chains doing just
that. I know of one that started with five techs and a badly lit store
front back in 97. Now they have hundreds of franchises all over Spain.
You can buy a computer with Windows, Linux or no OS at all.

Then again, cell phones are more popular here in Europe because when
someone calls you on a cell phone, you don't pay one dime, the caller
pays for making a call, not the receiver, of all things. In the USA they
con you with minutes and all kinds of crap for a cell phone and the
yuppie Americans eat it up and talk to their friends while they pick up
a computer with HastaLaVista on it and sip on their over priced
Starbucks latte.

This is rather political for a Vista newsgroup, however I wanted to reply to
this. It seems strange that Clinton got booted for a "sex" scandal, yet
Bush and his cabinet can "lie" to and terrorize the American ppl, and that's
okay. IMO, Bush and his cabinet are more guilty of terrorism than the
so-called terrorists. Bring Clinton back!! (Bill, not Hillary)

The end of the American Empire started long before the Bush dynasty.

The question isn't "Gonna vote for Jeb?", more like "Are the voting machines
gonna vote for Jeb?" ;^)

Sorry for my politcal rant, I'm done :^)

To each his own. I find it insulting and the last thing I want to do
after installing XP is have to convince someone I don't know on the
phone that I have a legit copy. I would prefer to get the updates and
install my programs and my devices and get back to work.
And the WMP issue goes back at least to WMP 10. I don't remember if WMP

I have 10 and it doesn't do that which is why I asked if this is a
feature of 11.

When you enable "Show Media Information" on the play list while in the Now
Playing view, it shows a small album art icon for the CD you're listening to
and offers to sell you that CD. This is in WMP 10 on my wife's PC right
now. It is not on WMP 10 on my laptop. I can't find how to turn it on but
it is there. On my wife's pc, if I right-click in that media information
area, it has the option to turn it off. WMP 11 does not have that option.

So, if you're not seeing it in your WMP 10, it's only because it's not
turned on. Unfortunately, for the sake of my argument, I can't tell you how
to do it. :)

So in other words, you have no numbers. I already knew that, I just wanted
to prove it.

Reliable statistics on Linux are not only possible, but readily available.
That you don't believe them is understandable, since they prove you wrong.

Want some more? How about Google?

http://www.google.com/press/zeitgeist/zeitgeist-jun04.html

Yes, it's 2.5 years old, but this is the last month that Google published
these figures. Notice how they match up almost perfectly with these:

http://marketshare.hitslink.com/report.aspx?qprid=2

http://www.thecounter.com/stats/2006/November/os.php

Windows around 85%, Mac around 4% and growing, Linux around 1% and flat.
They can't *all* be wrong, can they?

Face it, Linux went nowhere on the desktop.

Mike

D

Dale

Correction, you can hide it in WMP 11. There's a little blue arrow icon in
the upper right that shows or hides the media info area above the play list.
Heck, here's a feature that's easier to do than it is in WMP 10!

Dale

D

Dale

I found it! Finally! In WMP 10, go to the View->Now Playing Options->Show
Media Information. Now, at the bottom of the play list, in the Now Playing
view only, you will have the opportunity to finally clear your conscience
and finally buy a legitimate copy of those stolen CDs you're listening to.
