Extra messages?

I wonder if anyone can shed any light on this.

When I send messages from outlook 2003, and I look at the status bar right
hand bottom corner, it says sending 1 of 2 messages for example.

The problem I have is that sometimes I am sending messages and there seems
to ba an extra one sent, but no record of this in the sent files. Can any
body explain this please.

It is not only at a certain time of day, and it is not on a certain amount
of messages, I may be sending 2 and it says sending 3, or just 1 and it says
2.

I have tried all sorts of spyware removers, and I am running anti-virus, and
have my firewall set.

Please help end the frustration of a strange problem.

Thank you

Could it be sending "Read Receipts" for messaegs you've marked as read?
