Extra margin problem caused by new paragrah

Hi all,

I am using Word 2007 and having the following problem.

The bottom margin is defined 1 in long, but some pages show a wide margin. I
noticed that if I keep typing in the last paragraph on the page, it creates
one more line, which makes the margin perfecly one inch. If, however, I try
to create a new paragraph at the bottom, Word automatically moves the new
paragraph on the next page, leaving some extra margin space.

Can anyone help me explain the myth? Thanks in advance!

What do you mean by "myth"?

Sounds like you're seeing the effects of "widow/orphan control",
which is enabled by default. This setting prevents the first
line of a paragrah from being orphaned at the bottom of a page,
with the rest of the paragrah appearing at the top of the next
page. This setting also prevents the last line of a paragrah
from being orphaned at the top of a page, with the rest of the
paragrah appearing at the bottom of the previous page.

You can turn this setting off as follows:
1. Open a document that has this problem.
2. Press Ctrl+A to select all of the text.
3. Click on Home tab.
4. Click on the little arrow at the bottom right corner of the
Paragraph group, click on the "Line and Page Breaks" tab, uncheck
the "Widow/Orphan control" box, and click on Default | Yes | OK.
5. If you are prompted to save changes to your Normal.dotm
global template when you close Word, say yes.
