Extending Disk Partition on Windows 2000 Server

Hi,

The main hard drive on our Windows 2000 server was partitioned into
two, giving us C: and D:. We recently added a new drive and moved
everything from D: to it. I've removed the D: partition and would now
like to reclaim the space for C:. I haven't been able to figure out a
way to do this without either reformatting C: or purchasing software
to do this. If there isn't another way, I'd rather purchase
software. Any feedback on what's out there and how well they work?

Thanks,

Mark

Here is a safe method that costs time but no money:
1. Partition & format a new disk the way you want it to be.
You must do this on a machine other than the server.
2. Connect it as a slave disk.
3. Boot the server with a Bart PE boot CD.
4. Use xcopy.exe to copy the system partition to the new disk.
Make sure to include permissions and hidden files.
5. Disconnect the old disk.
6. Make the new disk the primary master disk and boot from it.

If this is too comples, buy one of the Acronis server products
or some other imaging software.

We use software from Acronis for this, the latest version does not allow
changes to server OS's unless you pay loads more for it.

We use ver 9 (I think) and it works well for resizing partitions.

I guess partition magic would also allow similar functionality.
