exporting a table to SAS - date errors

Hello -

Does anyone know how to convert date/times into simple dates so that they
will be imported properly into SAS when I use a Proc Import. right now, they
import as a text string consisting of a liine of asterisks.

i am using microsoft access 2002.

For those of us without experience using SAS, please define what you mean by
"simple dates".
