Export to csv

Leslie Isaacs

Hello All

I am using A2k, and need to export a query's results as a genuine csv file:
I say genuine because if I just export in excel format and name the file
with a .csv extension, I don't get a genuine csv file - there are no commas.
I suppose I could try adding the commas explicitly, in code, but I'm not
sure how to do that, and in any case it would just seem wrong to try to do
it this way!

Hope someone can help.
Many thanks

Hello Allen

Many thanks for your reply.

I have looked at the TransferText macro action, but cannot see how to create
the 'specification' for the export format. The Help info suggests I create a
spec by using the Get External Data wizard, but I'm afraid I couldn't see
how! In fact I would prefer to do this with VBA, but I still obviously need
the export spec: how do I get one (all I want is a .csv)?

Thanks again
Les

Do an export manually.
You get to save the export spec during that process.

Then you have the spec to use in your macro.

OK - got it!
Just out of interest, what exactly kind of object is the specification?
Obviously not a table, or query, etc. Is is possible to see a list of saved
specifications anywhere?

Many thanks for your help

Actually there are two system tables that store your import and export
specifications. You need to show system objects from the Options. Typically
you can't edit these tables. However if you create a query from either of the
tables I believe you can edit them.
