Explorer takes a long time to open a disk when clicked on the left side

If I have Explorer open with the My Computer tree open in the
left side, and click on a disk which has a lot of files on it,
it takes a long time (minutes) to display the files, with
Explorer.exe running at high CPU. However, if I have the list of
disks in the right side of the window and I double click there
to open the disk, I opens fairly quickly.

Why should one way work correctly and the other way be
unreasonably slow?

Have you looked at what processes are running in the
background via MSCONFIG ? This might present a clue . . .

Have you scanned for spyware recently ?

Do you have discs in CD / DVD drives at the time ?

Good Luck !

I have lots of stuff running but I don't see how it would
explain that the drive opens quickly when I click it on the
right side of explorer and slowly when I click it on the left
side.

No Spyware.
