explorer shuts down after a few minutes and computer get's fluey

This morning my computer started to have some troubles. Internet explorer seems to only work for a few minutes after I reboot the computer. I ran a network diagnostic and got this message

Network Adapters [00000001] Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC FAILED

not sure if that has anything to do with anything. But after the connection is lost my computer starts slowing down and behaving oddl

Is there a new virus? If so, what do I do about it? If not, what's the deal

Does anyone else have this same problem

Hope someone can help

Thanks in advance

Go to Start > Run and type: devmgmt.msc , and hit enter.
In the Device Manager Window, scroll down to Network
adapter and expand it. Right-click on your Ethernet Adapter
and select "Uninstall", then reboot your computer. After
rebooting, Windows XP should redetect the hardware and
reinstall the drivers.

If the above does not work, your network card may be defective
and will have to be replaced.

I'm having this exact problem, it started last night.

I've been at such a loss that I've formatted and
reinstalled Windows twice (I'm no PC expert so it was
easier for me than solving this) but even that hasn't
stopped it coming back.
