Explorer shows incorrect drive space

shift-deleted over 10 big folders (all larger than 1gig in size) together
with all their contents (files) but didn't get the space back in the C:
drive. After I discovered this I tried reloading a folder with the same
files and found out that deleting all the files in the folder and deleting
the folder with its files didn't yield the same space back in C:. deleting
the files gives me all the space back but deleting the folder with the files
gives me nothing. So I still don't know how to get the 15 gigs space back
from the previously shift-deleted folders and files. What should I do to get
the space back?

Norton Recycle Bin - Protested files.

There are two groups.
The others and yours.
When a file is deleted, norton takes the space and sets
it up to be undeleted as long as the space is not over
writen. After 7 days (default) it frees up the space.

If you are sure you dont need any of the deleted files,
right click on NRB and select empty norton protected
files, only delte yours. Let the othes age.

See you are protected and you are trying your best to
break the system :)

Thank you. You explained it very clear and led me to think of a bigger
picture. I've recovered the lost space.
