Explorer 6 freezing up

I need help with Explorer 6 freezing up. This has been going on since McAfee
updated my yearly subscription and ran an update if my memory is correct
about the timing. Anyway, I have tried EVERYTHING.

I tried to do a system restore first and everything froze up during
restore. Only resort was to manually turn computer off which led to losing
all system restore points! UGH. When computer freezes up, ctrl, alt, delete
does not always work and you have to manually turn off computer which leads
to scan disc for errors when turning back on.

Then tried to clean out some unused items that were taking up memory like
pictures and family tree files. I now have 182 out of 386 left in memory.
Then did virus scan, adaware, spy bot. Did find a Newdot.net thing and found
uninstaller for that and cleaned that out per what I found on another post
around May 1 and from advice on there from Frank. ( I cannot find that post
again to ask Frank what to do next!) I then did a thorough scan disk with
automatically fix errors. I have tried to keep uptodate on all. I cannot
figure out why this is happening all of a sudden other than McAfee and a new
game on Real Arcade being the only new downloads.

Any suggestions? I am running Windows ME, IE 6. I am on cable hookup and use
MSN. I only have a few games that I play through RealArcade and some family
tree stuff. i also have a few house plans that I am playing with on 3d home
architect. Mainly using internet to access research material for family tree,
school classroom ideas, house decorating and building, and general news/info.

I might add I am not that computer smart with all the technical stuff. I can
follow directions though! Thanks in advance for any suggestions short of
throwing computer out of the window!

Hi judy :)

Try the following first and see if that helps:

From Control Panel> Internet Options> Advanced> uncheck "Enable third
party browser extensions." That should allow IE to work. IF so, then you
still have some form of malware or pest on your system. Check out the
information here:

Dealing with Unwanted Spyware and Parasites:
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm
You should re-enable browser extensions after the cleanup.

If still no joy, then continue:

Try disabling the McAfee and see if that helps:

Download and install the Windows script engine 5.6 here:
http://www.fjsmjs.com/IE/scriptdb.htm

also...

Check the information here and see if it will help:

Internet Explorer freezes
http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/answers3.htm#freezing

and.....

Exit all programs that are running.
Click Start>Run>then copy and paste the following command into the window

regsvr32 /i urlmon.dll

Then click OK or hit enter. You should see "DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll
succeeded", click OK.

If this does not resolve the problem, then register all the following
commands by copying them into the window one at a time the same as you did
the regsvr32 /I urlmon.dll above, hitting enter and then Ok after each one.

Shdocvw.dll
Msjava.dll
Actxprxy.dll
Oleaut32.dll
Mshtml.dll
Browseui.dll
Shell32.dll

Hope this helps :)
