Expert reqd...How to install xp on another disc

My motherboard is having trouble recognizing my sata drive. When I install
XP on it, it says "disc read error, hit ctrl alt del to reboot". This
happens after I have copied all the files from the cd, and it has already
rebooted to begin windows setup. I know the problem lies with the sata hard
drive because I have installed xp on an IDE drive I have, and it boots up and
works perfectly. I have to patch the chipset to get the sata drive to work,
and it has to be done within windows, which cannot be set up until I PATCH
THE CHIPSET! ARG!

So is there a way to boot up from the IDE hard drive, (which is a loaner)
and install xp on the sata drive from within windows? Or could I install xp
on the ide drive, install the patch to the chipset, and then mirror the ide
drive to the sata drive?

Thanks!

"patch chipset" ? not sure what you mean.
Depending on your mobo, if using the sata as the o/s drive, you may have to
set bios options, connect sata to a specific controler or connector, or use
the F6 option to install sata/raid drivers from floppy during the
installation of win.
Generally its a question of reading your mobo sata setup instructions.
It may also be neccessary to take into account the sata version for the
controler and hd.
