exclude dictionary

Hello all

I'm not sure if this is the right group;
I couldn't find one dedicated to spellchecking alone.

I have Word-2000 and Win2k.

I have an exclude dictionary MSSP3EN.exc
and I can't get it to work.

It's saved as text.

I have Options -Sp&Gr - main only unchecked.

I have tried locating the file in
- application data\microsoft\proof
- common files\microsoft shared\proof
- and in a folder of my own where I keep my custom dictionary.

What am I doing wrong ?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions

Hello Jesse

Thanks for the reply.

The link you gave me has perhaps uncovered why my exclude dict is not
working
but I'm not sure how now to preceed.
I have created the EXC file properly and saved it in all the places
suggested.
But when I look in the registry I get as far as Installer
but then there is no Components key.
Is this the probelm ?

Any suggestions ?
Must I reinstall Office 2000 (Premium) ?
I have Win2K (SP4).

Raymond,

I used this procedure myself on a Word 2000 machine, and
it worked as advertised. The components key was there like
it was supposed to be. I feel mostly comfortable in the
registry, but uncomfortable to make a recommendation as to
how to proceed. I am not sure that a reinstall would work.
There are registry repair utilities for Word available.
Sorry I could not be more help. Perhaps one of the MVPs
will stop in.

Hello all

Having referred to the article on the exclude dictionary :
http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/General/ExcludeWordFromDic.htm
my problem is still not solved.

The article's description of the Office-2000 registry keys
doesn't quite match my registry.
Mine has a **UserData** step between **Installer** and **Components**.
Is this a mistake in my registry or in the article ?

I got to the D3xxxxx number etc.
and found the folder containing MSSP3EN.lex.
This is where I have my MSSP3EN.exc.

I'm stumped !
Thanks in advance for any hints !
Best regards,
Ray

You are probably connected to your ISP News Server. Instead, connect
directly to the Microsoft Public News Server. You'll find this is faster and
