Exceptionally long boot times..

Hi,

About 10% of our Dell Latitude notebooks use exceptionally long time to
boot with winxp. The black screen with the colored winxp flag stays on
for at least 2 minutes while the hdd light flashes / lights continously.

Even when the user has logged in to the domain, the gui is very slow and
during music playback the sound pauses frequently.

Antivirus and anti-adware tools have scanned the disks and found nothing.

Does it exist tools which validates the HKLM and HKCU Run containers and
also validates all the running processes?

Where do you suggest we proceed from here to try to track down the problem.?

Thanks for comments...

regards

Geir

Hi:

First I will check if I have the same problem if I boot the machines without
the network cable. Then I will do a scandisk and a degrag over the Hard disk
drive. If this do not improve the situation, I will check using, Dell or a
3rd party sofware, the SMARt parameters of the disk or disk. Also be aware
that if you have problem in a series of HDD, they will fail all almost at
the same time.
