excel xp macros cannot be saved to personal.xls

pallej

I have used excel a long time witout larger problems.
i have had a number of smaller macros that i have saved in
personal.xls, after first "unhiding" it. and then attached these
macros to toolbar buttons.

suddenly the buttons are gone and i cannot save a macro to
personal.xls, it needs to be unhidden?
and it turned out the personal.xls was gone!
I have a copy on an usb stick, but where shal i place the file? have
triede a couplle of folders: ...\xlstart\ but it does not work. so
where is the correct place and should i check other items too, so
excel knows its back?

i run xp pro sp2
kind regards
PAlle

I would first try Help>About MS Excel>Disabled Items.

See if Personal.xls got stuck in there after Excel didn't like something it did.

If so, try to enable it and see if you have access again.

To answer second question about storage.............

The most likely path to XLSTART is

C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART

Excel should find Personal.xls for opening in that folder.

Who but MVP's........?

Using google search and the words "personal.xls" and "cannot record" you can
get a few hits that explain the "disabled items" conundrum.

Gord

A ggogle search on personal.xls brings up a lot of results
