Excel spreadsheet ---> PPT chart

Guest

I understand that I can copy and paste my Excel worksheet to the datasheet in
PPT and get my chart under insert > chart.

I wonder if I can paste special of the Excel worksheet to the slide and then
turn it into a chart i.e. without pasting it to a datasheet.

Is datesheet the only way to get a chart?

Just curious.

Thanks.

The data sheet is the only way to get a chart in PPT.

It might be tempting to open the "dummy" chart in PPT and use Edit|Import
File to get the Excel data into the data sheet. But be sure to read Graphs
don't update automatically http://www.pptfaq.com/FAQ00025.htm first. If you
don't need the graphs to update, this may not be a problem.

Or it might be easier for you to just create the chart in Excel. You can
recolor it in PPT if necessary (instrux at
http://www.echosvoice.com/charts.htm ), or you can do the formatting in
Excel. You can get it into PPT using Edit|Paste or Edit|Paste Special.

Echo,

Thanks for the headsup. This is important info to know. I heard something
along the line that MSGraph no longer exists for PPT 2007. Please correct
me if I am wrong.

Well, charting in PPT 2007 will actually be done in Excel. But don't
panic! When you insert a chart or double-click a chart placeholder, then
Excel opens up with dummy data, and the sample chart appears on your
slide. You can see both Excel and PPT windows, and all the Excel charting
tools (and other tools, for that matter) are available for your use.
You'll be able to do formatting stuff to the charts in PPT with no
problems. So if you don't need to screw around with the data, then just
pretend Excel's a big data sheet. :)

Really, it's a good thing.

MS Graph is still around for legacy charts and people who don't have Excel
2007.
