excel sorting error

I have been working on a huge list on excel for a few weeks now. I always
just type in all the new names I get and click "data" then "Sort" so I can
sort them alphabetically by last name. I added more names to the list today,
but when I try to sort them, I get a message that says, "This operation
requires that all merged cells are identically sized." What do I do?
