Excel & Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac 11.3.9 Update

Has anyone else experienced the inability to use their numeric keypad within
excel after updating office. I recently downloaded and updated my office
suite with the last 4 or 6 downloaded office updates 11.3.x to 11.3.9 - I now
find that when typing within excel from the extended keyboard numeric keypad
- I can not get the numlock to work....and instead of typing my numbers
within the selected cell - my cursor seems to move from one cell to another.
This problem is specific to excel only. I am able to use the keypad for
numbers within all other applications on my mac.

Any suggestions or is this a bug that has disabled the num lock on a
microsoft digital media pro keyboard. - I am running OS X.4.11 on a mac mini
with a/m keyboard and MS mouse. How can I roll back my excel application pre
the most recent updates

I could not find anything that relates to this specific issue. Without the
recent updates installed on my laptop, I am able to plug the same keyboard in
and use the numeric keypad as I always have with excel "before updating
beyond 11.3.7". I am looking for any information threads with regards to the
updates causing this sudden glitch with disabling the numeric keypad.

Lesandz -

Part of "this specific issue" is "recent updates installed."

Have you repaired permissions as recommended by JE McGimpsey in his
troubleshooting web pages?

Thank you so much Mike. I have my permissions repaired daily with macaroni
and I had totally missed the preferences option. I guess some things in OS X
work the same as they did under Classic OS. I am new at this message board
posting to find answers. And my search was for numeric keypad or cell
navigation. I was not thinking corrupted preference files. Thank you again
for you help I can not believe the wealth of knowledge that is out there
from reading these postings. And the time that is spent by people such as
yourself ... helping others.

Best Regards.

Has someone wrote by accident Excel /Office 11.3.9 ?

The latest update I have is 11.3.7 but I ran the Microsoft Updater and
it says no new updates are available. I have it set to automatically
update weekly. But ran Manually just in case.

If you look at the read-me that came with the updaters, you'll see that
Excel is not affected by the 11.3.8 and 11.3.9 updaters.

The updaters don't write changes to non-affected applications just to
change the update number.

Various components of Office will have a variety of different update
numbers, depending on when those components were last affected. This
makes sense from a developer and customer support perspective (i.e., one
doesn't have to test a non-affected app since no changes were made, and
one doesn't have to remember that 10.3.7, 10.3.8, and 10.3.9 are
functionally identical).

I opened the updater logs and indeed it does say 11.3.9

But word is 3.7
Excel 3.8
PowerPoint is 3.6
Entourage is something else.

So I guess its up to date?

The key is to look at the "Microsoft Component Plugin" file in the

HD:Applications:Microsoft Office 2004:Office:

folder. That file is *always* updated, and so should show 11.3.9 when
you do a Get Info on it.
