Excel linked table

Warrio

Hello!

Is it possible to have a linked table to an Excel spreadsheet and allow many
user to read ONLY the data.
I know that an Excel spreadsheet cannot be a multi-user document, but what I
want is that many users get connected to the Access database and view the
data. I don't need to have in any case to modify or edit the data of the
spreadsheet.

if I link Access to an Excel spreadsheet and try to open the linked table
from more than one computer, I get the message that stats that the table is
already opened exclusively by another user..

One of the solution is to import the spreadsheet into access and keep
working only with Access, but I can't do that everyday since it will slow
down the loading of the Access application.

Thanks for any suggestion or advice.

Hi Warrio,
Do you absolutely want to use Access.
With the proprieties set to Read Only, your Excel spreadsheet could be
viewed by many users.
Have a good day,

Hi Céline!!
Thanks for your response, but all my application is made and works in
Access..
and what Access do when you link it to an external spreadsheet, it tries to
open it exclusively! and this even if the attribut of the file is set to
Read only.

so is there a way to make access get connected more than once to a linked
spredsheet??

Thanks for any adivice

Hi Warrio,
And if you activate the multi-user option in this external spreadsheet would
it work ?
Open the spreadsheet, menu Tools, Share spreadsheet (or something like it. I
work in French ;-) and in French the command is "Partager le classeur")

Bonjour Warrio,
Vous devez importer les données dans Access :-(

Question :
Hi. I have a spreadsheet which is linked as a table. My problem is that
the Jet engine gives me an error in my query if more than one person tries
to open it. It says that is "opened exclusively." Is there a way around
this?

Réponse 18 mars 2005 :
Not on a spreadsheet. Excel allows only 1 person to edit a file at a time.
The only work around is to import the data into Access.
