Excel Goal Seek Unavailable

Richard

Hello,
I am teaching a class in Excel 2000 and have a very
confusing problem. When we are trying to use the Goal
Seek function on a series of data, the goal seek option
is still grayed out when the desired cell is selected.
This is happening on multiple systems in the lab, not
just one. I have checked to see if there is an error in
the function, if the cells are locked, if there is a
reference issue, but there doesn't appear to be anything
wrong. Any suggestions?

Goal seek is not installed by default. I think it is part of th
"Analysis Toolpack". Try re-running the install disk and check thi
option to have it added to the existing setup

Hi BrianB!

GoalSeek is not part of Analysis ToolPak.

AFAIK GoalSeek is not an option that needs selection during
installation although Solver is.

Norman,
Thanks for the response. No, we are not using any
grouping in the workbook. There are 18 systems that
are "supposedly" set up the same way. They were imaged
off one basic image. 15 of the systems work fine, but
there are three that do this. Very frustrating.

Also, in response to BrianB (thanks for the input BrianB),
there are no additional tool packs added on.

Hi Richard!

I'm as much in the dark as you as I can't replicate your problem but..

Try:

Opening Excel without any addins or hidden workbooks:

Start, Run,
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Excel.exe" /Automation

Quotes mandatory, Note you may have to change the path.

If your error disappears, there is either an add-in or a (hidden)
workbook that is loaded upon XL's start, which is messing around with
menus.
