Excel "forgetting" its add-ins

A

Angry User

There is nothing more annoying than having to reinstall the stupid Solver or
other add-ins (such as regression) after not using them for a while! I
teach the same class every Spring and every late January or early February I
need to check a homework problem on my laptop here and there. And every
year, the same damn story, I have to insert some stupid disk, which I don't
have with me on a trip.

I specifically remember doing THE COMPLETE INSTALLATION of the stupid Office
software on my machine precisely to avoid this problem, because this
incredible annoyance and frustration were all too familiar from its previous
incarnations. In addition, I specifically remember RUNNING this stupid
add-on last year, and it is just beyond me why this piece of crap of software
keeps torturing me to insert some stupid CD so that it can download some
crappy little file which should be there in the first place.

I am sick of this, my next computer will be either Apple or I'll swithc to
open office, this is simply ridiculous. I hear Microsoft has plans to open
stores just like Apple. Well, they'd better plan on paying those poor
employees hazard pay because, right now, if there were any Microsoft stores
in Illinois, I'd sure go there to let them know what I think about what
torture it is trying to deal with this nonsense.

Have you run any registry cleaners on your computer since you last used
Solver?
Assuming you're using MS Office 2007, do you have the MS Office setup
files installed on your computer? That should preclude the system asking
for your Office setup disk. They should be stored in C:\MSOCache. My
MSOCache folder takes up 907 mb.
And if Solver is "stupid," as you say, why bother installing it? <g>

I am not an Apple fan, but I have looked into my local Apple Store. It's
clean, modern, and well-staffed. Microsoft will have a tough time
matching the ambiance of Apple's stores.
