Excel file not imported in original sort order

Joe M.

When I import Excel files in Access 2000 the file is not imported into the
table into the same sort order as the Excel file. Furthermore, when there's
some import errors, I'm not sure if the error row is the row in the Excel
file or the import table.

Thanks!

I am sure the MVP's are frustrated, perturbed, upset, annoyed, etc..
(aren't thesaurus'es wonderful) about answering this question. Only joking -
the smart ones have a database of canned answers for questions like this
(i.e. Autonumber's visible to users). This one goes something like this :)

Most table don't and should not have a specific sort order and you should
not count on the entry or import of records to determine a sort order. You
will sort by a specific field/(s) to determine a sort order preferably in a
query, such as on Last name, First name or Social Security Number.

The error number should be for the spreadsheet row but you may have to
subtract 1 to get the correct row number.

Hope that helps,

Craig

<chuckle> I'm a bit annoyed with *myself* for not seeing your clear and
excellent answer and moving on... rather than replying myself, redundantly.
Thanks Craig!
