excel DAY() function has error in it

In Excel the DAY() function has an error in it.
Days up to March 31,2009 are correct ... but as of April 1,2009 the results
are 3 days off.
04/01/2009 should be "4" (wed) but shows as "1" (sun)

The Weekday function however is correct.
Anyone else get this same problem or is it my computer?

I think you're misunderstanding how the DAY() function works. It returns a
number corresponding to the day of the month (not week). So, 04/01/2009
should return 1, since it is the first day of the month.

You are Correct Elkar !
It just so happened that the data I used started with Feb. 1st 2009,
which is a Sunday, and so is Mar.1st and the function Day() actually
reported the correct day-of-week from 2/1/2009 on. Until April 1st -
which then gave me the unexpected result.
I didn't realize that the function, with formatting of "ddd",
continued to report multiples of 1,...,7 as the correct day-of-week!
Reviewing the function I saw I should have been using weekday()
instead.
Thanks for the feedback...
