excel charts and powerpoint

I have an excel 2003 document and powerpoint 2003 document.

I am cutting and pasting the charts into powerpoint so I can still access
the data. I have 25 charts. The excel file is 3 mb, the powerpoint file
ends up being 43mb. Is this correct? How can it get so big?

When you copy/paste, it creates an embedded OLE object. That's Geek for
"The whole Excel file is embedded inside your presentation. Every time
you
copy/paste, you get another whole copy of the Excel file in the PPT."

I know that Sara is using PPT 2003 (thanks for specifying that, too, Sara!),
and of course Steve's answer is exactly correct for PPT 2003. But I want to
clarify that copy/paste from Excel does *not* work this way in PPT 2007. In
2007, you get a link to the original Excel file. It's new behavior,
different from PPT 2003.

If you did want to embed the file in 2007, you can use the Paste Options
button that appears immediately after you paste onto the slide.

Just tagging this on for posterity. :)

Sometimes I have to select and copy the same stuff in Excel 2007 the same
way
several times before I get what I want on the clipboard.

That's why I'd suggest ALWAYS using PasteSpecial in 2007 and choosing the
correct type of object from the list it gives you. Otherwise, it's
something
of a crapshoot.

That's fair. Haven't run into it myself, but I've seen reports of it here
and there.
