I want a cell to turn red if i input S or Sam or Spm in it, can anyone help please

Welcome to the forums 
. You can use a formula conditional on the Cell. Right click the cell > Format > Conditional Formatting and then use the following formula (i.e. Cell A1) and select Red:
=if(or(A1="S",A1="Sam",A1="Spm"),1,0)

I have creating holiday/sickness spreadsheet.
I have got the cells to turn red if i input S, Sam or Spm now i need to calculate how many days sickness is nbeing taken for each individual so S=1 day and Sam&Spm =0.5day, how can i get the cells to add up
