Excel and MSworks. Compatible?

Hello,

(this may have been posted twice. This is my first post here. pleas
bear with me.)

I have a question about the compatibility of excel spreadsheet
"talking" to MSworks files, and vice versa.

1. I was wondering if it is possibly to have an MSworks file (used as
database) to give an excel file information, but not all of it, jus
the items in the database that fall into a certain criteria.
From there I would like to do further calculations with the items.

2. And vice versa, I was wondering if I have info in numerous exce
files and I want the MSworks file to be able to read all of these file
and combine them all into one database. (Assuming all the columns ar
the same)

3. Or should I stick completely within the Excel spreadsheets and giv
up on the MSworks? The Works 'Print Sort' gives me what I'm lookin
for, but I can only print it out... I don't know how to save tha
information to a different file.

Any help is appreciated. I'm a beginner (trying to head toward
intermediate) but i seem to be at a standstill, since I don't even kno
if these are possibly.

Thx
Alexz

I'm not sure if I will answer your question the way you
need or not, but in my opinion, if you have Microsoft
Office (Excel) and MSWorks on the same computer, I would
not touch MSWorks. Excel should do everything you need
and more! Without knowing all the details of what you're
trying to do, it sounds to me like you could look into
using the "hide" function to hide specific columns and/or
rows and then print out your sheet. This way all the
data can be in your worksheet, but just not seen or
printed out. If you have different scenarios you want to
print, you could even record macros to hide/unhide the
rows and columns you want. I hope this gives you an idea
and that I'm not totally off base!
