Excel 2007 adds a $ sign (absolute reference) when copy/pasting

I have a weird glitch where I am copying a series of consecutive columns and
trying to paste them in the same sheet (so I can just run a second scenario).
Some of my formulas have an absolute reference. When pasting to the new
columns, Excel (1) isn't adjusting the column references, it keeps the old
absolute reference, and (2) it is actually ADDING some additional $ signs
where I don't want them. Has anyone ever had this problem??? I don't recall
ever having this happen in Excel 2003.

Hi,

$ signs mean absolute references, and these are not supposed to adjust when
copied, that is the point of using absolute references.

$A$1 - Absolute, wherever you copy it nothing changes
A1 - Relative reference, wherever you copy it the row and column can
change, the row when copying up or down the column when copying left or right
$A1 - Mixed reference, the row will change if copied up or down but the
column letter never changes
A$1 - Mixed, the column letter will change when copied left or right but
the row number will never change.
