Excel 2003 - Certain icons in drop down menu are not functioning

Within the last 10 days I have noticed that certain buttons in the drop down
menus have grayed out and do not function. This includes Save, Save As,
Print, Print Preview in the File drop down menu. Not all icons are affected.
For instance, the Print Area icon works just fine. I have also tried to
utilize key stroke commands but this to does not work for the affected
functions that these icons represent. For instance I can do a Alt F and the
File drop down menu will open. However when I press A for Save As, the File
menu closes but I do not get the Save As dialogue box.
I can do a Ctrl S to save or a Ctrl P to print and this works fine. Also,
the File icon and others that do not work in the drop down menu are
functioning as normal.

I use several templates on a daily basis which I must "Save As" each time I
open one. HELP!!!!

Correction to last line of my original note.

The File icon and others that do not work in the drop down menu are
functioning as normal with the icons in the Standard Toolbar.
