Excel 2000 - Can not access ready only file

I am running Office 2000 on a Windows 2000 Pro machine.
When I click on Excel it says "Can Not access ready only
file reference". Weird thing is this PC doenst have any
files named reference, BUT if has 1 folder with that
name. When I renamed the reference folder reference2 and
click on excel it then said "Can No Access ready only file
reference2". So some how excel is linked to this folder.
I ran Detect & Repair in excel, didnt fix it. I tried the
repair option in Office, didnt work. I already searched
through the registry, no luck. I have full permissions to
that folder and its not a read only folder. I have looked
all over the KB with no luck. Any suggestions?

Sometime you may do something that excel doesn't like and
doesn't have a suitable error handle for so it makes the
file read only.
Try:
Ctrl+Alt+Enter and end task Excess (all of them if more
than one instance)
Now open Excel, open file you want. if read only accepted,
then open as read only then save As a new name.xls

close original then reopen original

If this is not what you want then
