EXCEL 2000 AND WINDOWS VISTA

I'm finding that cell formatting (eg, dates) will no longer work in Excel
2000. Whether it is an existing spreadsheet or a new one, cell formatting
does not work, and all dates entered are treated as text. This applies
whether the cell formatting is done before or after the date is entered.

It does appear to be a Vista/Excel 2000 conflict of some sort as it did not
happen until after I got Vista. And I've just opened (from a Windows XP
computer on the same network) some of the offending files, and the problem
does not exist.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a workaround available?

Someone reading this group might know the answer (and I'm sorry but I
don't); however, the best place for you to ask this question is in the
Excel newsgroup. That's where the Excel experts hang out.

Thanks, Malke. I started the thread on an Excel newsgroup, got lots of
help, but no solutions. When I realised that it is (or at least appears to
be) a Vista-caused problem, I thought I might get more joy here. Still
hoping.

Thanks for the suggestion, "garysgold". I selected both Windows XP and
Windows 200, but neither made any difference. I have not yet rebooted, but
will let you know if that helps at all.

I'm not using Outlook (and I have heard there are some compatibility
problems there). But what functionality do you have problems with in other
programs?

Haven't found anything within a single program in office2K so far. Noticed
that some links between Exel and Access don't seem to work. I was only
playing as I don't use Access anymore. Great prog. just more than I need.

Good luck,
