everything suddenly looks tiny

I have automatic updating. This morning when I turned on the computer, the
icons were all small, and certain Web pages seem frozen in a small frame.
When I increase the window size, the text on the page, instead of expanding
to fill the window, just stays there all tiny. This is not a font problem --
I increased font size, I decreased resolution, but it's still too small.

Any idea what has caused this? I want to get back to how it was yesterday
(normal). Reset Web settings didn't do it. I have Windows XP Home.

Try a system restore to just before the problem happened. Start | Run
Help and Support. Click System Restore on the toolbar.

For the desktop items, check your desktop size in Display Properties.
Larger desktop = smaller objects. Smaller desktop = larger objects. It
sounds like your desktop size was set a bit smaller before this change.

For text on web pages: If using Internet Explorer, click on View in the
menu bar and then Text Size. Move the radio dot up to a larger text size.
This will change font size on all web pages *except* ones where the page
author has specified a font size in their html code.

If by any chance you were using html wallpaper (Display> Desktop>
Customize> Web) the change of font size within IE should change its
appearance too.

You're welcome. In the future I would suggest you turn off automatic
updates. Use the custom install option and examine each suggested
update before installing it. Do not get driver updates from the WU
site. If needed go to the device manufacturer's web site or the
computer OEM's website. Only update drivers if there is a specific
problem it solves or a must have new feature.
