Thanks again for your help...but
In safe mode I was unable to run the cmd as an administrator...either tru
the "search" window or from the Icon on the start menu..
using the search window brought up the command window but there was no way
to run as administrator.
Right clicking the CMD Icon brought me to round searching thingmajiggy that
never stopped searching.
Starting in normal mode I could do all of the above....so I entered the
commands and did exactly as instructed by the website.
but no luck......I ended up with 3 repository folders....repold....rep1..and
the normal rep..So I assume the commands worked but unfortunately it did not
solve my problem.
I get the same error when I try to start the service.
maybe I shoulda stayed with XP...........??

Hi
"system",administrator as well as user that's me have full control.
I should also tell you that I am having a problem with the OneCare Firewall
not turning on but the Vista Firewall works .
I have a help request in to the Windows Live OneCare Support .........so far
they have not solved that problem either and I believe the 2 problems are
related.

What can I say.......uninstalled OneCare.......went back to the instructions
on that webpage.Managed to actually run the commands under Administrator
CMD.......except it would not let me rename that Repository folder(i am on
my XP machine as I type this)...everything else went as planned.Still no
event log service.
I took possession of that Repository folder...still cant rename by right
click or using the rename command under CMD.
Cant delete nor move the files in the folder...in use is the message even
though the service is shut off
I am waiting for a 3rd response from OneCare Support who also told me how to
manually...with admin CMD ..turn on the Event Reporting Service....and no
luck his way either. He is a day late right now ..normally I would have his
answer the next morning.
Thank you for your effort and it seems there are quite a few who have
similar problems and a definite solution is somewhere in the future...SP1
???...SP2 ????

I found a solution to the event viewer problem.........I upgraded Vista with
Vista.
I had originally "upgraded" from XP by means of a new installation......then
basically deleted windows.old
This time I upgraded from Vista Premium Upgrade to Vista Premium Upgrade
using the upgrade option not the new install option.
Yes it took 2 hours but it did save all of my settings and the Event Viewer
now works.............
Vista still let me Activate over the net without a long phone call......it
installed the updates from the net and all is fine...so far.
Now I am going to re-install Windows Live One Care and see if I still have
the firewall problem or if that is what screwed it up in the 1st
place...wish me luck!!
thanks for your help.
