Event Logs blank

I am running two servers with Windows 2000 SR4. The
System Log and Application logs indicate that there are
over 1,000 events in the log. However, no events show
up. As far as I can tell there is no filter set.

A few weeks ago, I would open up the Event logs and the
System log would show events. Then I would click on the
Application log, and though it indicated over a thousand
events, nothing showed up in the box. When I returned to
the system log, it said 0 events. I had to close the logs
and then open them up to see the system events logged.

Now they do not show up at all. Can anyone help?
