EVENT ID: 51 & 26 - Outlook 2000

Ray

Hi. I also posted this in the Outlook forum but it may be
more an OS issue, so here it is.

I'm telecommuting today. I was working happily along when
all of a sudden, Windows 2000 Pro froze. Nothing worked,
no way to restart so I pushed the restart button.

Now, when I try to open Outlook in my profile, the other
two on the pc are fine, I get two error messages that
basically happen simultaneously.

The pst may still be write protected. What I would do is check the pst you commonly use. Right-click see if it is Read-only. Fine it in C:\Documents and Settings\%profile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook. You may need to show all hidden files and folders to see Local Settings; Windows Explorer | Tools | Folder options... | View

As for ther other issue that looks like a damaged disk. Try in the command prompt:

Start | Run | cmd | OK

chkdsk c: /f <ENTER> You will likely have to reboot first for this command to complete.

The other thing you can do is check the integrity of the file. You use scanpst to do that. You find that application in C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\1033 Note the 1033 is for English you may have a diiferent numeric there if you are using a non-English Office install.

Ray Again

Hi George, thanks. I did end up fixing it about 10 minutes
ago using scan disk on purpose with a repair option. It
fixed some lost clusters and also the Outlook cmd. which I
think was the culprit, so, now it looks fine, but, I'm
keeping your post for the future just in case this is the
beginning of something bigger.

Thanks for your help

You know Ray there is one other thing you might look at in the future. This issue can occur with later versions of Outlook I am not sure about Outlook 2000. In any case there is a file called:

%profile%.srs

You find that in C:\Documents and Settings\%profile%\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook. Sometimes this file can get corrupted. In later versions when that file gets corrupted Outlook will start say there is a problem and shut down. I fixed this once not sure what I did. I hate fixing fixing fixing. Anyway I might have just removed it and then fired up Outlook. Never delete the thing always just move out of where it is expected so you can put it back if necessary.

Glad the issue is resolved.
