Europe 301... Clip on mydeo service

P

PapaJohn

I'm working on a newsletter about mydeo's streaming service, and testing if
and how well it handles stories made by PS3.... here's my test sample...
about 1-1/2 minutes:

http://www.mydeo.com/videorequest.asp?XID=7064&CID=50254

mydeo recommends streaming files for broadband users to be in the 350 kpbs
ballpark, which makes them higher quality at 320x240 or lower at 640x480

This story is saved with a custom profile of high def resolution
at1280x720... its bitrate is 238 kbps, and 80% of it is for the audio
stream... only 49 kbps for the video.

I'd appreciate comments on well it plays at your end... thanks

Hi Yves... another 'best ever' one... thanks

9,200 still pix and 20 hours of video footage to keep busy with.

Must be something in my security settings
but when I click a link like that WMP opens
and all I get is a dialog at the bottom of the
screen that says 'Connecting'. It never does
actually connect.

Maybe it is. I tried the link again. Works fine on my end.

Ok...I changed a few things and discovered
the culprit was ZoneAlarm. What do you use
as a firewall?

The video plays beautifully and is very
interesting to watch. The sound seems
to have problems.

The audio is a mix from various camcorder audio clips, the first 20 seconds
being the noise of a waterfall... maybe it's not sounding like one when you
don't see it at the same time.

I guess it sounds like a water
fall, I thought it was static.

It would probably work well if the
waterfall was video and not just
a still image.

Sorry )

I'll change the audio 'someday'... until then, here's another test

the first one was made at a Quality setting of 95, which for this story
gives it a video bitrate of 49 kbps

here are 2 more to test against the first

the next break point is Quality setting 97... which bumps the video bitrate
on it up to 66 kbps
http://www.mydeo.com/videorequest.asp?XID=8674&CID=50358

and then the final break point of Quality setting 100 results in a video
bitrate of 106 kbps
http://www.mydeo.com/videorequest.asp?XID=12533&CID=50362

going too high with the Quality setting resulted in unwanted shimmering when
viewing a DVD on TV... I'm wondering if for internet streaming it would be
better to go back up, or leave it at the 95 setting. The answer might differ
by the monitor.

The total bitrate at Quality 100 is 238 kbps, still much less than the rule
of thumb for streaming at mydeo for those with a broadband connection.

They both run smooth on my machine.
If there are any variations...I don't notice
them.

WinXP SP2

P4 3.4 GHz

I have an Old Magnavox 107S CRT...
I'm not a fan of LCD screens.

OK... this is the final-final one in this series... the same story saved to
the upper high-def level of 1920x1080 pixels for those who can see such a
size... I don't have a screen that big.

The quality setting is 100 and the bitrate is 317 kbps total (164 video and
153 audio)

http://www.mydeo.com/videorequest.asp?XID=17945&CID=50451

the mydeo service doesn't limit the bandwith of the uploaded videos... just
suggests settings that should work for various viewers setups/connections...
I'm trying to explore the sweet spot for my stories.

Okay...I was just remarking that I
cannot see a significant difference.

Your first link worked fine. This one is terrible. Slow, choppy picture, my
screen is 1280 x 1024.

This one plays and looks fine also.
I'm sorry that I cannot offer any real
constructive feedback but I'm simply
not a video expert.
