etrust ez antivirus renewal

jools

Just received my renewal notice from Computer Associates $19.95. I queried
this with CA, as I have previously been paying $9.95, and was told "...that
the *small* price increase was to enhance our product features..."

Since when has DOUBLING the cost been a *small* price increase - they've
lost my custom!

Mine, too, especially as I was repeatedly unable to download
the latest version of the program.

I was using AVG on my other machine, so now I have *two* new
antivirus programs to find. :(

In the UK and Europe they are adding VAT at 17.5% making a total of
$23.44 much too much to pay now.

I closed the window on the renewal and got a popup saying that I could get a
20% discount if I reordered right then and there so I took advantage of it
and got it for $16.00. Very worth it in my view.

Interesting, but still an 80% increase, and if Grytpype-Thynne is right a
further 17.5% VAT also has to be added to that.
Personally, I also don't like this type of marketing strategy where they
offer you a discount just as you are about to walk away.
The silly thing is I quite like the software and would have been quite happy
to pay modest increases - but this is ridiculous.
Time to try Avast

If the program was not as good as it is, I would have walked away. However,
with the discount, it's certainly worth it in my view. It works very well
with ZoneAlarm Pro too.

Hi jools,

Since when has DOUBLING the cost been a *small* price increase -
they've lost my custom!

I'm very happy that there are free AV solutions for those who will use
them, as it's a good and reasonable thing to make this sort of
"protection" as widely available as possible; for the well being of
everyone's machines, and not just for the machine of a specific end
user.

However, when we get into the realm of software we're willing to pay
for (I'm very happy to pay the yearly renewals for my nod32, for
instance, which happens to be more than even the current EZ
Anti-Virus cost), I sometimes find it curious that people will moan
about the cost of certain security applications, while at the same
time think nothing of spending much more on other types of programs.

At the end of the day, we each will only pay what we, as individuals,
feel something is *worth to us*, so if someone is truly happy with
how EZ Anti-Virus has been working for them, even considering a
doubling of the already very low cost of the program until now, it
does seem a little peculiar to make such a big fuss over it.

This is all just my opinion of course, so remember that it's only
worth, at worst, what you paid for it. :)

Whos making a *big* fuss - this is a brief exchange, by a few people, on a
relevant newsgroup.

I completely agree when you say "..we each will only pay what we, as
individuals, feel something is *worth to us*..." At the renewal cost being
offered it is no longer worth it to me.

It's $7.30 less than the renewal cost of NOD32. How does it
compare with the renewal costs of McAfee and Norton?

The latest release is 7.0.6.7. Computer Associates in conjunction with
Microsoft continues to offer a free 12 month license for EZ Antivirus.

I find that with this new version, I have to switch to manually checking for
updates otherwise the Defrag won't ever finish!

I've not had any similar conflicts. I have the updater scheduled to
check for updates every four hours.

Hi jools,

Whos making a *big* fuss - this is a brief exchange, by a few

Well, you did seem a bit upset, and I do apologize if I
misinterpreted. I was really only trying to offer my own perspective
concerning the relative cost of the various types of programs we use,
and what I often see as a reluctance to value "security programs" in
the same way we value other types of programs.

Even so, I will say that I feel it's unfortunate that we have to
concern ourselves with programs that try to protect us from things
that "shouldn't" be here to bother us in the first place, but reality
forces us to deal with these problems anyway.
I completely agree when you say "..we each will only pay what we, as
individuals, feel something is *worth to us*..." At the renewal
cost being offered it is no longer worth it to me.

Just out of curiosity, what will you be using instead? Will you be
moving to a free program that you feel will be just as good for your
purposes? Or will you go in the other direction and use a program
that you feel might be equivalent or better, though it may well cost
even more?

I've never had the issue come up in previous releases and I've been with
them since the free days; this is the first one.

why not just download the years free trial version again, using a
different email address?
